I am thrilled to announce that, in the spirit of social and community spirit, the “Salon des Arts Décoratifs 2010”, will once again host the program called “Treasure Boxes” (“Boîte aux trésors”), whereby small treasure boxes are hand painted and distributed to children. We wish to thank the Montreal Painters’ Guild “MADP” for their generous assistance in this endeavor.
The Guild has been active for many decades. Its many members all share a passion for decorative painting and a great interest in social and community volunteer activities and it is for this reason that we have solicited their help.
In the past few years, the Guild has been instrumental in the creation of a variety of projects, particularly, striking arrays of frescos in children’s schools. The members have also introduced their “treasure box” campaign for ill children in the Shriners’ Hospital.
The Shriners’ Hospital is a 40-bed facility specializing in orthopedic surgery, and catering to boys and girls, ages 1 to 17 years. The patients are often confined to the hospital for very long periods of time and, as children do, amass a collection of “little treasures”. Imagine then the joy and the thrill for these children of having their very own hand painted treasure boxes to store their special treasures..
All guests, who wish to participate in this project, are cordially invited to paint one of these boxes at any time during the duration of the show. MADP members have generously offered to be of assistance to all who wish to get involved – a short leisure time for you and an immense joy for a child. You can let your creative energies flow as you paint a box, or you can choose to reproduce one of the designs created by many of your favorite artists
A special booth has been set aside for this project. It is equipped with paint brushes, paint, and all that you will need to complete your “treasure box” project. The boxes have all been prepped and are ready for your creative touch. Guild members have taken on the task of varnishing the boxes and of delivering them to the children in the hospital at the end of the show.
Our hope is to have a treasure box for each and every child in the hospital. Will you be one of those people who will help us attain our objective?
My heartfelt thanks go out to the members of the Montreal Painters Guild who have generously and spontaneously accepted to take hold of, and manage this time consuming and demanding task, one that brings us together to share our passion for the art of decorative painting. Thanks also to all of you who will be participating in this worthwhile project
P.-S. Many artists have already contributed some designs to be painted on the boxes. If you wish to offer some also, we would be delighted to have them on hand and available to those guests who will be participating in the project.
Have a look at the many boxes painted by our generous guests during our very first event. We sincerely thank you for the time and energy you have given to the project. The children have received their treasure boxes and they offer their heartfelt thanks for these gifts that have given them pure joy.
